Diário de Lisboa: „Editoras discográficas independentes. Dargil: democracia do gosto em Portugal“
Rui Eduardo Paes
Two-page report in the arts section of the Lisbon daily on Dargil, the independent Portuguese record label and importer run by José Correia Mendes. Rui Eduardo Paes calls ECM, the renowned European jazz label, the jewel of its catalogue and presents as the most recent examples “Volver” by Enrico Rava and Dino Saluzzi and the quartet of Paul Bley. In “Volver” he hears a direct, perhaps too direct, reference to the Argentine tango innovator Astor Piazzolla and highlights the guitar of Harry Pepl, a “neophyte” (the inverted commas are the author’s) who is already surprising half the world. On page 25 Correia Mendes explains Dargil’s order quantities using Keith Jarrett and Harry Pepl as examples.
Also worth highlighting on the record is the guitar of Harry Pepl, a “neophyte” who is already surprising half the world.

Diário de Lisboa: „Músicas alternativas: Guitarras“
Rui Eduardo Paes
One-page round-up review of new guitar records in the arts section of the Lisbon daily, ranging from Henry Kaiser and Sonny Sharrock to Bill Frisell, John Abercrombie and Steve Tibbetts. Under the subheading “Das surpresas aos desrespeitos” (from surprises to disrespect), Rui Eduardo Paes presents, alongside Tibbetts’ “Yr”, Harry Pepl, another surprise guitarist of ECM, the renowned European jazz label, with “Cracked Mirrors” (Herbert Joos on flugelhorn, Jon Christensen on drums). He expressly recommends both records.
But Harry Pepl, another of the house’s surprise guitarists, is also here with “Cracked Mirrors”
his particularities and tightly woven details. Two records not to be passed over.
