Harry Pepl Prize for Stefan Heckel

On Monday, 22 November 2010, at the close of the 20th Austrian Soundcheck (festival in Graz) at the Orpheum, a concert venue, in Graz, Austria, the Styrian pianist and accordionist Stefan Heckel receives the third Harry Pepl Prize of the Graz promoter gamsbART, a grant of 4,000 euros (the Kleine Zeitung, a daily newspaper from Graz, gives 4,500 euros after the ceremony), expressly as the starting point for a doctoral thesis on Pepl's work. As a prelude, Daniel Riegler, prize winner 2008, and Matthias Muche play three of Pepl's real-time compositions as a trombone duo, among them “125/250” from the Air Mail years. In 2024 Heckel completed a dissertation on Pepl's late work at the mdw (University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna).
