The German biographical encyclopaedia has an entry of its own on Pepl with his dates (born in Vienna, Austria, on 10 September 1945, died in Wiener Neustadt, Austria, on 5 December 2005) and his teaching from 1977 onwards; the article on Werner Pirchner, the Austrian composer and vibraphonist, names the Pirchner-Pepl JazzZwio. The first edition (ed. Walther Killy, Munich: K. G. Saur) already names Pepl in its supplementary volume (volume 13, ed. Rudolf Vierhaus).
