Andy Manndorff
1957 – † 2017
Private student and close friend: as a young guitarist he always came to Pepl privately, not through the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. According to Pepl's son Daniel Pepl, Manndorff was his father's first student and asked him for guitar lessons around 1971, at the age of 14. Of their first meeting he recalled: “As a young lad I approached Harry, and he said: ‘Laddie, if you want to come to me, you'd better already be able to play.’” Later he said Pepl was the only teacher who had been able to teach him anything. In 2006 the Andy Manndorff Trio played at the “Tribute to Harry Pepl” at Porgy & Bess (Vienna jazz club).

Viennese jazz guitarist and composer (1957 to 2017); lived in Amsterdam from 1979, then in New York and from 1995 back in Vienna, played in the Vienna Art Orchestra, the Viennese jazz big band led by Mathias Rüegg, and led his own trios.

I was never a good student either; the only teacher who could teach me anything was Harry Pepl. And he gave me a spirit to take with me
