Pepl played it in 1984 at the NDR (Norddeutscher Rundfunk, public broadcaster for northern Germany) workshop and with Portal Unit. The 2015 version is listed with the AKM (Austria's collecting society for composers, lyricists and music publishers) as version 2, with Martin Bayer and Clemens Salesny as arrangers (ISWC T0093203598).
The catalogue of the INA (Institut national de l'audiovisuel, the French archive for radio and television) documents the piece three times. A concert recording by Radio France (France's public radio broadcaster) with the Michel Portal Unit of Monday, 10 March 1986, lists “Desauge + maulwurfs no forte” as a single entry: two pieces, Pepl's “Das Auge des Maulwurfs” and Michel Portal's “No Forte”, which followed each other directly or merged into one another, as Pepl and his fellow musicians liked to do (according to Pepl's son Daniel Pepl). A recording of Air Mail which the INA dates to Thursday, 15 May 1986, calls the piece “Mulwolf”, according to Daniel Pepl a garbled spelling of “Maulwurf” (German for mole). On Tuesday, 13 January 1987, FR3, the French regional television channel (today France 3), showed Air Mail with “The Eye of the Groundhog” in its series “Le Temps du jazz”, recorded at the Maison de la Culture d'Amiens, France.
